HOW IT WORKS
Parts
The Permanent Match is made up of 2 parts, the CONTAINER and the MATCH. The CONTAINER is filled with lighter fluid. The MATCH is made up of the FLINT STRIKER and WICK. On the side of the CONTAINER is a STEEL ROD. The MATCH ignites as the FLINT STRIKER strikes down the STEEL ROD.
Package Includes
- Permanent Matches
- Spare Wicks
- Instructions
FUEL IS SOLD SEPARATELY. Use only Ronson or Ronsonol lighter fluid (light petroleum distillate fuel) to fill the canister.
DANGER: Lighter fluid is extremely flammable. Use only as instructed.

FILL WITH LIGHTER FLUIDThe best lighter fluid is Ronson or Ronsonol Lighter Fluid. The Permanent Matches ships without lighter fluid but a 4 oz bottle can easily be obtained online or at most department stores and gas stations. Slowly turn the lighter fluid upside down to fill the fuel container no more than 1/2 full. DO NOT strike the match if any lighter fluid has spilled out. |
STRIKE TO LIGHTTo strike, position the flat end of the flint striker at a 45° angle at the top of the steel rod on the side of the container. Apply pressure to the match and scrape downwards along the steel rod. Practice striking to learn how to create a spark with each strike. DO NOT shake the container when striking. Keep the hand holding the container steady when striking to prevent fuel from spilling out. Keep away from children. Not a toy. |
PACK INCLUDES SPARE WICKSThe flame lasts for about 5 seconds before it starts to burn the wick. At that point the match needs to be re-soaked in more fuel. The cotton wick will not burn as long as there is enough fuel on the wick. Re-soak the wick in more fuel if it starts to burn. If more wick is needed, use needle nose pliers or tweezers to pull more wick out of each side of the match. Spare wicks are included to replace the wick if needed. |

I found lighter fluid. THe matches light with EVERY SPARK!
I now rate this product FIVE STARS! This is based on the product AND the company’s superb customer focus.
I wrote a less than flowery review a couple of weeks ago. See below.
The company immediately responded with a fix and suggestions where to buy fluid. I haven’t try the new ‘matches’ yet but I’m giving the product FOUR STARS based on the company’s customer focus. I’m expecting to go to FIVE STARS as soon as I get lighter fluid.
ORIGINAL REVIEW. So far, I'm unable to get it to work. I don't have lighter fluid. In fact Ive been to three stores so far and none carry it.
I used charcoal lighter. The spark is great but it won't light the wick. I'll get some lighter fluid and report back.
We used Zippo lighter fluid, and the suggestion to fill the lighter only to the 3/4 mark is a valid one, in order to not cause overflow spillage when reinserting the 'match after striking.
It's good to have spare wicks as part of the offering, though it should not be necessary for quite a few uses.
The thin O ring attached to the key ring, well, it's really flimsy. The hole for the key ring is small, making it difficult to insert, as it is a really tight fit.
We recommend the match based on the reliability of getting a flame that lasts a few seconds, and the bonus of spare wicks.
So, after this experience, I decided that these are unreliable garbage and a safety hazard. I proceeded to process a return, and to my surprise, they wanted me to ship them back even though I have already poured fluid in them. I'm not 100% on laws about shipping flammable liquids, but I'm pretty sure that I can't ship anything that is leaking fuel. I guess the set was cheap enough that I can throw the leaking ones away and hope that the other ones don't fail, but I don't have much faith in that idea. I'll probably find another brand that works as advertised and get rid of all 5 of these. The savings isn't worth the burns.
