I have been told to get a hobby so many times I have lost count, but what my friends and family don’t understand is that I do have a hobby.....Insurance. I have been an insurance agent for about 9 years now. I often tell people that I eat, breathe and live insurance. Most people think I am joking, that is until they engage in a conversation with me, and then they change their tune. While I love being an insurance agent, my family does get a bit frustrated with me. For example, the other day we went to the movies and while watching a scene where a building gets blown up, everyone is the theater is oohing and awing. What do I do? I am thinking, how the heck a claim would pay out on that and I hope they had business income with extra expense on their policy. I have been at dinner parties where the host was telling everyone the story of how her mom left her all her antique jewelry. The other guests were asking questions like, “how old was the diamond ring?” and “is that piece gold or platinum”? Me on the other hand, waited for a break in the conversation to ask, “Do you have those rings scheduled out”? My question was met with a collective eye roll from everyone. Once, I was in a discussion group about a pretty serious subject and the next thing I know we are discussing the difference in coverage’s between a commercial cab and a Lyft driver. I might add that the matter actually became quite heated, but luckily I was there to give “expert” advice. Honestly, I don’t think it is my fault that when talking to a neighbor about their baby taking their first steps that it ends up with me giving them advice about an umbrella policy, I love what I do. I am a Mom and a soon to be wife and I am an insurance agent. Who needs a hobby when my career is my hobby? I think I am pretty darn lucky!
p.s. I do have one more hobby – BAKING. It’s a nice outlet for the occasional break from insurance, which of course I love if you couldn’t tell.
Hello! My name is Erica Diana. Yes, I have two first names. You can call me Erica, or Diana, or any other name. I answer to everything! That's what happens when you are a twin and grew being called the wrong name. Believe me, I don't take offense to much.
A little bit of background on me - I've been at Advantage Insurance Solutions for 2 years and have been part of the financial services/insurance industry since 2002. I like to say that if it's boring and requires a license, I'm down.
This October, I will have been married for 12 years. I have two daughters who are my life. My husband is a carpenter by trade and works for Jeffco Public Schools - he's super handy and can build me whatever my heart desires (wink wink...). We're actually talking about and planning on building a new garage - let's all keep our fingers crossed!
Doing what I do, for as long as I have doing it, I have to tell you - it has changed my mindset as a mom.
A "normal" mom will think about what kind of cupcakes to serve at our daughter's upcoming birthday party. Me? Guess what I think about.
Oh - well, I wonder about what kid is going to fall off the jungle gym in my backyard and if their parent will then sue me.
A "normal" mom will worry about their dog getting hit by a car when he escapes (AGAIN!!!) from their backyard. Guess what I think about...
Oh - I wonder what would happen if he attacks someone (he won't) and how I'm liable for him even if he isn't at my house.
A "normal" mom thinks about how great their children do at school, about their kids excelling at studies and at sports.
Yep - again, I'm different. I am scared that if one of my girls is playing with a rubber band and it gets loose and damages another student's eye. You guessed it - I'm liable. The parents are responsible.
Like I mentioned before, I have two beautiful, kind, respectful girls. I cherish this time as their mother. Yes, my looking glass is different, and I might have additional worries because of my profession, but I wouldn't change it for anything.
Also - my husband helps keep me sane.
Things like liability, responsibility, being sued, not having the right coverages, and not knowing how insurance provides the coverages are all really important to me. Remember, I like the boring stuff. My biggest, most important professional goal is to help my clients - personally.
Thanks for taking the time to read this!
Hi. My name is Michelle. I'm a single full-time working momma of two, a three year old going on thirteen and a five month old. I'm currently nursing my five month old and have recently been battling allergies. Being this is my second time around & reading every article I could, I've come up with a couple tips for us nursing mommas with allergies! When you're nursing and you have allergies, you can't simply go to your favorite allergy pill for relief as their primary role is to dry inflamed mucus ducts in your system. One of the ducts that can be dried up in conjunction with the others are milk ducts responsible for supplying breast milk. So what's a nursing mom to do to function? Well... I'm already drinking mother's milk tea to help increase milk supply, so I add a tablespoon of raw organic local honey to sweeten the flavor (make it more tolerable and taste less like black liquorish) and local honey has so many health benefits including allergy relief! Honeybees collect pollen from blooms that are the primary source for those pesty allergens that are wreaking havoc on your mucus membranes. By ingesting local honey made from the pollen you're surrounded by, you are able to combat those allergens without risk of drying up your milk supply! Please be cautious not to get honey anywhere near baby as little ones can not have honey until at least one year of age as it can cause bochelism in babies if exposed and ingested. So, you can knock out a few momma problems in one, increase your milk supply with mother's milk tea as well as sweeten the taste and combat allergens with local raw organic honey.
Stay tuned for the turnout of your favorite insurance agents nursing and parenting adventures!
Hi there! My name is Lori Busi and I'm one of several working moms here at Advantage Insurance Solutions. I'm an entrepreneur, mother of 3 beautiful children (6 year old twins Ben and Alyssa and 21 month old Charlie) and last but not least wife to an amazing man who is a fireman. Yes ladies, I said fireman!
As a business owner and mother I've had to learn how to wear multiple hats at once such as diaper changer, claims handler, order taker (food, snacks and whatever our clients ask for), and mom/office manager (which are kind of the same thing except it’s kids vs. adults). For most, finding support as a working mom can be tough. So what did I do? I enlisted several other hard-working moms to be part of my work/family team. We currently have four working moms in the office and nine young children between us who are learning the business as we speak--whether they want to or not. HaHa!! They'll thank us later.
Coming to work is an experience from day to day. A KIDTASTIC experience that is!! We try to make the best of what we're working with which is a hectic insurance business and being working moms. Some days are better than others but how many working moms can actually say they’re able to take their kids to work with them? As a working mom, there's a lot of guilt that follows. I’m sure you’ve heard of it. It’s that mom guilt. So many times I've told my kids just 10 more minutes but in reality they know that really means at least another hour. In my head, I'm thinking I really just need to get this one last work thing done but on the other side of it I'm thinking, wouldn't it be more fun for them to be at the park or pool instead? But we try not to let those things get to us by keeping a balanced work/play attitude. If you work hard and meet your goals you can go play.
Why do I have the best team of people working at Advantage Insurance Solutions? That's an easy answer, because what else would you want from your insurance agent other than a caring, responsive person? I have a team full of strong, multi-tasking people and moms who are ready to take care of everyone around them. At the office we all do our best to support one another and are always willing to take a kid off one another's hand when in need. I’m guessing there are many working moms out there that might feel like they’re the only one tackling the daily challenge of it all but we're here to let you know that you're not alone. It’s no easy task but we're here to support you and also fill you in on our crazy, hectic, fun filled days and maybe teach you a thing or two about Property, Casualty and Life/Health Insurance along the way.
